Two killed in multi-vehicle EC crash

File

The Eastern Cape Transport Department says two people were killed and three others injured in a collision on the N6 between Komani and Jamestown involving three vehicles.

Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said the accident happened just after 7 AM on Sunday morning.

He said the vehicles involved were an articulated truck, with one occupant, a Mazda sedan with two Somali nationals, and a VW Polo with three occupants.

“It's alleged that reckless and negligent was the main contributing factor to the accident. The Mazda was overtaking the Vivo when it met the truck on the wrong side of the road,” he said.

Binqose said the two Somali nationals in the Mazda were killed while the three men in the VW Polo sustained injuries.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Komani Saps for further investigations.
