Two people were killed when their car hit a tree on the R510 between Rustenburg and Northam in North West on Saturday evening.
The province's department of public safety says two vehicles were overtaking another vehicle, when the driver of a VW Polo veered to the extreme right of the road and hit a tree.
Department spokesperson, Lesiba Kgwele says the driver, a 28-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman, died at the scene.
He says rescue teams had to use the jaws-of-life to free the bodies from the wreckage.
