Two Gauteng learners have taken their own lives on Monday at two separate schools in the Province.
MEC Matome Chiloane says they are deeply saddened by the latest incidents which serves as a grim reminder that the emotional well-being of learners is a shared responsibility.
He says on Monday, during lunchtime, the body of a Grade 10 learner from Soshanguve Secure Centre was discovered hanging in the dormitory at a juvenile centre.
Chiloane says the boy was taken to the centre about two weeks ago and was awaiting trial.
The Department did not elaborate on his alleged offence or divulged his name.
Chiloane says in the second incident a Grade 9 learner from Kgetsi Ya Tsie Secondary School took his own life at home on Monday.
