Police said two truck drivers have been arrested as part of investigations into a series of arson attacks targeting the trucking industry in several provinces.
National spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the arrests were made by members of a multi-disciplinary team assigned with investigating the attacks and burning of trucks.
She said two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested at their homes but it was not immediately clear who they work for.
Mathe said the first suspect was arrested on a farm in Piet Retief with the assistance of a private security firm and the other in Ermelo.
“Both suspects face a charge of malicious damage to property,” she said.
The arrests come a day after Police Minister Bheki Cele said that they had identified 12 suspects for their alleged roles in the torching of over 20 trucks in Kwazulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.
National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, said the net is closing in on those behind these attacks.
Mathe said high density operations continue through roadblocks, stop and searches, and the tracing operations of these wanted suspects.
