Two people were killed and many others injured when tornadoes ripped through the Eastern Free State on Saturday evening.
Netcare911's Jeffrey Wicks says a woman was killed when strong wind razed four shacks to the ground on a farm outside Bethlehem.
He says she sustained significant traumatic injuries when she was struck by a piece of corrugated iron.
Wicks says a man was killed and five others sustained injuries when a tornado destroyed a house near the Vaal Dam in Deneysville.
He says paramedics arrived at the scene to find a man in a critical condition, having been crushed by falling rubble. He died at the scene.
Five others who had sustained minor injuries were transported by ambulance to a nearby medical facility.
