Two behind bars for impersonating police officers

Gauteng police arrested two people on charges of impersonating police officers after finding SAPS paraphernalia in a vehicle they stopped in the Heidelberg area on Thursday.

Spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said two alleged accomplices managed to flee and evade arrest.

She said the members were patrolling the R103/R550 towards Heidelberg when they stopped a VW Polo vehicle with four occupants inside.

“As the members were busy searching the vehicle, two of the occupants ran into the veld.

“The two remaining occupants were arrested and further investigation revealed that the VW Polo vehicle was stolen as per Eldorado Park case opened in November 2024,” Nevhuhulwi said.

The search for the remaining two suspects is continuing while the two in custody will appear in the Heidelberg magistrate’s court soon on charges of impersonating police officers and possession of stolen property.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the police in Randburg arrested two suspects for impersonating police officers.

“It is reported that the two lured their victims into believing that a case docket has been opened against them and that they can make it go away at a certain fee.

“On this case, the victim requested to meet them at the police station and that is where they were arrested after establishing that they are not real police officers,” she said.

They will be appearing before the Randburg magistrate’s court.
