Video clips of a funeral in Soshanguve, just north of Pretoria, have gone viral as they show mourners deliberately flouting regulations pertaining to the Disaster Management Act.
On Saturday, police in collaboration with the SANDF arrested a 33-year-old woman who appeared in one of the videos.
She was seen daring the police to stand aside and allow them to bury the deceased.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters says they have seen several video clips from the same funeral where it is clear that there were far more than 50 people in attendance.
Police also managed to track down and arrest the family member who organised the funeral
Brigadier Peters says the two arrested individuals were released on warning and must be back in court on the 3rd of September and the 24th of August, respectively.
Police thanked community members for reporting these funerals to police as we all have to do our part to curb the virus.
