The former apartheid-era government minister, Pik Botha, has died.
He died at his home in Pretoria on Friday morning at the age of 86.
Former Transkei leader and UDM president Bantu Holomisa says Botha had played his role in pressuring the old administration to change for the betterment of all South Africans.
There's been mixed reaction on social media to Botha's passing, which is now top trending on Twitter.
While messages of condolences were posted, others pointed to his role in the oppressive apartheid government, while one tweet called him a thug and said that those who try to mourn him should do it privately.
