Robber killed in wild shoot-out with Saps in Howick

One suspect died and two others were injured after a car chase and shootout with police officers in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal.

Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane says the K9 unit was alerted on Thursday about three suspects who were allegedly involved in theft out of motor vehicles.

He says the suspects were spotted in their vehicle but sped off when they realised members were trying to pull them over.

Police officers gave chase and a shootout ensued.

Zwane says the fleeing suspects crashed their car into another vehicle and overturned.

Police arrest two suspects who both sustained gunshot wounds. The third suspect died on the scene.

The men had a 9mm pistol in the vehicle as well as a car jamming device.

The injured are under police guard in hospital and will appear in court soon where they will be charged with attempted murder, possession of car breaking implements, reckless and negligent driving and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
