The chairperson of the select committee on trade and industry and economic development says a solution must be found to end the attacks on truck drivers.
Mandla Rayi says it is not only a crime against truck drivers but also against the economy, at a time when faster and rapid growth is required.
He says it's critical that law enforcement work hard to find the culprits and act accordingly to stop this thuggish behaviour.
Rayi said in a statement issued on Tuesday that the number of attacks directed at truck drivers, many of whom were foreign, had increased.
He said attacks motivated by xenophobia will not be tolerated and if this was a motivating factor, then the perpetrators should be exposed.
Two trucks were set alight on the N3 northbound in the Mooi River area late last night, with clean-up operations still underway by early on Tuesday morning.
Several trucks were targetted in the Eastern Cape this week, including one that was set alight on the Oliphant's Kop pass between Cookhouse and Paterson on Sunday.
