A truck driver is due to appear in a Western Cape court on Monday after drugs worth over R3m were found in his vehicle.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie, said the driver was arrested on the N1 last Thursday during high-density patrols in the province.
He said members of the Rural Flying Squad deployed in Laingsburg, in collaboration with Laingsburg SAPS, “acted on instinct” when they pulled over the truck.
“The members ensued with a search of the driver and the truck upon which they found ten packets containing Mandrax (tablets) concealed in a box, and eight boxes containing compressed dagga.
The value of the drugs is estimated at R3.54 million,” Pojie said.
The 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.
Western Cape police management praised the members for their commitment and vigilance in bringing the suspect to book.
