The Hawks in the Western Cape has made it’s second major drug bust in less than a week, this time intercepting a haul of cocaine worth more than R30 million.
Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase, says a truck carrying a loaded container was stopped at a fuel station near Cape Town, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Nkwalase says a total of 38 wrapped cocaine packages weighing 1 kilogram each was found inside the container and both the drugs and vehicle seized.
The 37-year-old driver of the truck who was arrested is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Last week, the Hawks Narcotics Enforcement Burea, seized ecstasy powder and cocaine worth more than R6.3 million, hidden in a consignment of furniture at the Cape Town harbour.
