The Pietermaritzburg High Court has sentenced 29-year-old Njabulo Ndlovu to five life terms for killing three people and raping a child.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Ndlovu was jailed on Thursday after pleading guilty to the charges last week.
The crimes were committed in Sobantu, outside Pietermaritzburg, on 27 June.
In his plea explanation Ndlovu admitted going to the home of a 35-year-old woman, with whom he later had consensual sex.
NPA spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson Kara, said at some point during the night the woman’s 65-year-old mother asked him to leave and after an argument, she was killed.
Ndlovu then also killed the 35-year-old woman who woke up to the commotion and also later raped and killed her 7-year-old daughter.
He was arrested the following day.
The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the swift finalisation of this matter.
