Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has set up a transformation committee for universities, nearly 5 years after a racist incident in the Free State sparked a probe.
Nzimande said on Wednesday that the oversight committee comprised of vise-chancellors, academics and trade unionists. The committee will monitor the progress of transformation in Universities and advise him on policies to combat racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination at higher education institutions. The committee will also review initiation practices.
The probe was started following a widely publicised racist incident at Free State University in 2008
