Two trains were on fire at the Cape Town station on Tuesday afternoon as the board of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and management were briefing MPs at a nearby hotel about arson attacks on the country's rail infrastructure.
As the briefing was taking place, MP's from Parliament's portfolio committee could be seen passing their phones to show each other the dark plumes of smoke coming from the CBD.
The Chairperson of Prasa Khanyisile Kweyama, who was also attending the briefing, expressed her shock after receiving the message that yet another two platforms were on fire.
She said she was now forced to say that they cannot exclude the fact that there is sabotage in the system.
According to Cape Town Fire and Rescue's Ian Schnetler, two trains consisting of three carriages were burning.
