The National Prosecuting Authority in the Western Cape says torture charges against 14 members of the Hawks are being finalised.
NPA spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, says they are busy preparing an indictment on the matter and charges will be finalised soon.
Yesterday, the Democratic Alliance said the Hawks had been given a great deal of power.
DA MP, Dianne Kohler-Barnard, says the charges arose from cases where members of the Hawks allegedly handcuffed suspects' hands behind their backs before pulling plastic bags over their heads.
She says people were allegedly threatened with suffocation, hit, kicked and slapped.
