Police in Tzaneen have launched a manhunt for an unknown suspect who raped a toddler who was left at home alone.
Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the three-year-old's mother left her alone for one hour between 6 pm-7 pm on Friday.
He says the mom returned to give the child a bath when she complained about pain in her genitals.
Upon closer inspection, the mother noticed blood stains and took the child to a nearby hospital for medical examination.
Colonel Ledwaba says medics confirmed that the toddler was penetrated and a case was opened at the Maake Police Station and transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigations.
Parents and guardians are continuously urged to take extra care of their children to curb the scourge of sexual-related offences especially against children.
