A 33-year-old father is behind bars after allegedly killing his 16-month-old toddler during a domestic dispute.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says the man and the child's mother had an argument on Thursday in the house that they shared on a farm situated near Swellendam.
He says the argument was reportedly over one of them wanting to work on a farm in a neighbouring town.
Pojie says the father allegedly grabbed hold of the child and took her outside the dwelling where he stabbed her repeatedly.
The baby girl, identified as Alime Mbasha, died on the scene from stab wounds to her neck and chest.
The mother only sustained minor injuries.
The father is currently being detained at the Swellendam SAPS until his first court appearance on Monday.
