President Jacob Zuma is considering a request by embattled IEC chairperson, advocate Pansy Tlakula, to be place on special leave.
Her request followed last week's ruling in the Electoral Court which recommended to parliament that she be removed as IEC chairperson for her role in a scandal over a lease agreement for the IEC's new head office building in Pretoria.
Two reports by the Public Protector and the National Treasury found irregularities in the lease deal.
The court action was brought by five political parties.
Tlakula's request to president Zuma was confirmed in a brief statement from the office of the deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa.
