Tik worth over R5m seized at Cape Town International airport

CAPE TOWN, August 25 (ANA) – A 26-year-old woman from Johannesburg has been arrested at the Cape Town International Airport after tik worth over R5 million was discovered in her suitcase, police said in a statement on Thursday.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the woman, from Wanderers in Johannesburg, had been on a flight from East London and landed in Cape Town at 21h40 on Wednesday night.

Border police based at the airport conducted random stop and search operations.

“When searching the suitcase of the woman they found numerous parcels wrapped in tin foil and further examination led to the discovery of Tik with an estimated street value of R5.4 million, which was promptly seized,” he said.

The Station Commander at the Cape Town International Airport SAPS, Colonel Anton Olivier, commended the members of the Border Police for their vigilance and a job well done in seizing the large consignment of drugs.

The woman is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court on Friday. She will be charged with dealing in drugs.
