Three-way battle for DA party leadership

DA

DA federal leader, John Steenhuisen, will face a double challenge for the leadership of the opposition party at its elective Federal Congress which starts on 1 April.

His challengers are former Johannesburg mayor, Mpho Phalatse, and Lungile Phenyane, who is also challenging Helen Zille for the position of Chairperson of the Federal Council.

Phenyane, who hails from Tshwane, is also contesting every other available position, including the position of Federal Finance Chairperson, against Dr Dion George.

Nqaba Bhanga of the Eastern Cape, is one of eight members, contesting the position of Deputy Federal Chairperson.

The party's presiding officers, Bridget Masango and Greg Kumbrock said preparations for the conference were proceeding to plan.

"We are very pleased with the diversity of our candidates as well as the provincial representation and the age diversity. We can also confirm that the nominations process was thorough and democratic," they said.
