Three suspects who allegedly used police blue lights to commit robberies were killed in a shootout with the police in Mpumalanga.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridilli, says the incident happened last night on the N3 highway at Grootvlei between Villiers and Heidelburg.
She says members of a multi-disciplinary task team had been mobilised to track down the suspects which eventually led to a high-speed chase.
“The suspects started shooting at the team and the team retaliated. Three suspects were fatally shot and one suspect managed to flee the scene on foot,” Muridilli said.
She said police seized two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, blue lights as well as the suspects’ vehicle.
Muridilli said the team combed the crime scene for more evidence while the vehicle was taken to SAPS’s Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit for further analysis.
