Police in the Western Cape swooped in on a house in the upmarket suburb of Claremont in Cape Town on Monday where cash and luxury watches were confiscated.
Spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says a 34-year-old suspect was arrested earlier for defeating the ends of justice and as the investigation unfolded they descended onto the premises.
She says in the house, linked to the suspect, they found R4.6 million in cash, stashed in a concealed storeroom.
Potelwa says inside the storeroom the money was safely stashed in travel cases with 16 luxury high-end watches and empty 9mm pistol cases.
She says the suspect was due to appear in the Belville Magistrates Court on Monday where an additional charge of possession of presumable stolen property was added to his charges sheet.
Potelwa says the possibility of further charges cannot be ruled out.
She says as their investigation continues they will now determine the origins of the money and the items seized.
