Three suspects were killed in a shootout with KwaZulu Natal police in the early hours this morning.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, says the incident occurred in an informal settlement at La Mercy.
He said police were acting on information that a group involved in serious crimes, including murders, were hiding in the Lungelani informal settlement.
Naicker said when the task team descended on the location, the suspects opened fire.
He said in the ensuing gunbattle, three men were fatally wounded while it's believed the others escaped during the shootout.
Police seized two pistols that were found at the scene.
