A huge fire that broke out at a Boxer Shopping Complex in Komani last night gutted several shops.
Riders Towing and Volunteer firefighters from the town’s Rapid Response Unit responded to the massive blaze after receiving a call at about 10:55 pm.
The unit’s Juan van der Walt said three shops were completely destroyed by the fire.
He said they arrived on scene and battled the blaze until around 4am on Friday morning.
“We managed to save nine shops, including Boxer Stores. We cannot gain access inside [as] it is still too hot."
He said the cause of the fire was yet to be established.
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality could not be reached for comment, however according to social media reports, no fire brigades were dispatched from the local municipality.
Komani Border Kei Chamber of Business’ municipal liaison, Adre’ Bartis, said no injuries were reported.
