Three people were killed and one was seriously injured near Bethlehem in the Free State, after a bakkie lost control and overturned.

Netcare 911's Chris Botha says the accident happened late on Saturday afternoon on the road to Warden.

He says three people died at the scene, and a critically injured man was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident is not known, and will be investigated by police.
