Three hikers had a narrow escape along the Garden Route on Thursday morning, when they were swept out to sea at the Bloukrans River Mouth.
They were brought ashore in a dramatic helicopter rescue.
Plettenberg Bay NSRI station commander Deon Truter said that a group of 8 Otter Trail hikers tried to cross the river, when three of them were swept out to sea.
They managed to clamber on to rocks, but due to large swells, it was too dangerous to attempt a rescue by boat and an emergency helicopter was dispatched.
They were safely hoisted ashore and no-one was injured.
