Northern Cape police arrested three people in Kamieskroon for being in possession of endangered species of plants valued at approximately R500 000.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, said police received a tip-off that the plants were being transported from Leliefontein in the Namakwa region to Kamieskroon.
She said officers sprang into action on Monday afternoon and intercepted and searched the vehicle after obtaining the driver’s permission.
Ehlers said police found about 30 bags containing 1 309 endangered plants on the truck which was also seized.
She said the three, aged 31, 32, and 39, and from the Western Cape, were subsequently arrested and will appear in court.
