Police Minister, Bheki Cele says 30 police officers have tested positive for Covid-19.
Cele conducted an oversight visit in Durban on Wednesday to see how lockdown regulations were being enforced in the Metro.
He said Cape Town has been the hardest hit, with 11 police officers testing positive.
One officer, who had been in a very serious condition in the hospital, has made it out of intensive care and is recovering.
Meanwhile, seven more people have died from the virus in South Africa bringing the death toll to 65.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said of the latest fatalities five people died in the Western Cape and two in KwaZulu-Natal.
In the Eastern Cape, 377 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and six have died.
Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane has denied reports suggesting the province was “hopelessly ill-prepared” for the coronavirus.
He said it was not a fair assessment, adding the Eastern Cape was one of the first provinces which reported cases of patients who fully recovered from the virus.
Speaking during a television interview on eNCA on Thursday, Mabuyane also defended provincial Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba, saying she was doing her “level best”.
He did admit though, that there were elements of “sluggishness” in the department.
