Thieves target 'high-end' motorbikes in PE

Port Elizabeth police have warned the public about a suspected syndicate targetting high-end motorycles.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said in the past year thieves stole off-road and on-road motorbikes in the Metro valued at around R1.9m.

She said investigations by the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit revealed that 25 motorbikes ranging in value from R140 000 to R300 000 were stolen, mainly in the Humewood area. Very few of them were recovered.

"The common models among those stolen were the adventure KTM 1290/1050 and the BMW F800GS and R1200GS. Its further suspected that these bikes are taken across our borders," said Naidu.

She added that in one case, the thieves removed the slabs from the vibracrete wall of a house and pushed the bike out of the yard while in another incident CCTV footage showed the robbers jumping over a wall and stealing the bike.

"In other instances the dogs were poisoned," Naidu said.

Anyone who can assist police with their investigation or know whereabouts of the suspects should contact D/W/O Jaco Ferreira on 071 671 1243 or D/W/O Adèl Smith on 071 475 1940.
