A teenager from the small town of Dullstroom in Mpumalanga has been arrested for allegedly killing his grandfather with a pellet gun.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi says its believed the teenager had a heated argument with his grandfather on Sunday and then went to his room to get a pellet gun.
He says the teenager allegedly fired a shot and the pensioner collapsed on the floor.
Brigadier Hlathi says a member of the public alerted police and paramedics who declared the 63-year-old man dead on the scene.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
The pellet gun was taken in for ballistic tests.
Brigadier Hlathi says a probation officer has been assigned to the case and the docket will be handed over to the Director of Public Prosecution for a decision.
The teenager is expected to appear in court soon.
