A 35-year-old suspect is in police custody in Randburg after police discovered over 10 million images of child pornography at his house in Midrand.
Spokepserson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk says a takedown operation was executed at the suspect's property on Friday, where the discovery was made.
She says in just 48 hours, police arrested 21 suspects on charges related to child pornography countrywide.
Van Wyk says police confiscated a number of electronic devices at the house in Midrand, as well as drugs and cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime.
She says the arrest followed information shared by international law enforcement, which located the target in South Africa.
Further investigation by the Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) unit revealed that the suspect is hosting and distributing child pornography on a global scale.
He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court next week, and his identification will be withheld until he has pleaded on the charges.
Lieutenant Colonel van Wyk says in December last year, they arrested a 41-year-old former school principal in Pretoria and a 49-year-old suspect in Vanderbijlpark on similar charges.
