The Western Cape Education Department has condemned the actions of an unknown person who hacked a teenager's social media account and posted racist comments online.

Department spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, says the account which contains very disturbing content was linked to a 15-year-old at Table View High School, while a second account was made under the school’s name.

She says it is confirmed that the learner’s account on the popular video-sharing app, TikTok has been hacked.

Hammond says the child’s parents have submitted the phone to SAPS and have further opened a case of defamation of character.

She says the SGB is also engaging with TikTok and have submitted a legal letter to have the account, which is unlawfully registered in the school's name, removed.

Table View High was alerted about the fake account in October and warned their followers not to interact with it.
