Eastern Cape school teachers and principals reported for duty on Monday in preparation for coastal schools' reopening on Wednesday.
This despite teachers' union SADTU's disapproval of the provincial government's redeployment program.
Premier Noxolo Kiviet announced earlier this month that more than 2700 teachers would be moved to schools, where their services are needed.
SADTU provincial secretary Mncekeleli Ndongeni said that none of their members would accept transfers from their current schools.
The union said it would brief it's 53,000 members this week and is planning a lunch hour picket across the province on Friday.
