A woman from Durban who worked as a teacher for 10-years was arrested this week for allegedly faking her matric certificate and her teaching diploma.
The 41-year-old Thembisile Phungula supplied the Department of Education with her certificates and was hired as a teacher at Msinga High School in 2011.
Police spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says her alleged fraud was uncovered when the school verified the authenticity of her qualifications.
He says the department suffered a financial loss of approximately R122 493-00 which was paid to her as a salary.
A case of fraud and misrepresentation was opened at the Dundee police station which led to Phungula's arrest.
She appeared in court this week and was granted bail of R2 000.
