Nine suspects are appearing in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town on Wednesday following their arrest for selling and transporting alcohol which is prohibited under Level 3 lockdown regulations.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says they were monitoring the suspects for quite some time after receiving information about illegal trading from a farm in Paarl and at premises at a warehouse in Airport Industrial in Cape Town.
He says police arrested the suspects and seized their wine, a substantial amount of cash and their delivery truck.
Captain van Wyk says inside the warehouse at Airport Industria they discovered the storage facility equipped with security uniforms, safes, forklifts and more boxes of alcohol.
The suspects aged between 26 and 55 will be charged for contravening the Disaster Management Act regulations in relation to the selling, dispensing and distributing of alcohol.
