A 43-year-old suspect has been arrested at a roadblock on the N7 after unpolished rubies and diamonds were found in his luggage.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says police pulled over a Toyota Quantum in the area of Klawer in the Western Cape on Tuesday morning where the luggage of all occupants was searched.
He says they then found 344 unpolished diamonds and 1030 unpolished rubies in his luggage.
The value of the stones is yet to be determined.
Once charged, the suspect will appear in the local Magistrates Court.
