Heavily-armed police have on Friday been deployed to West Village in Krugersdorp in Gauteng where a music video shoot turned into a horror scene for several models who ended up allegedly gang-raped and robbed by several men.
Gauteng police told AlgoaFM News that at least eight of the 12 models, who were part of the music video shoot, were violated.
One of the rape survivors alleged she was raped by at least ten men.
"It's quite a bad story to hear," said Police Minister Bheki Cele, who confirmed the grisly incident upon visiting the area on Friday.
Minister Cele said two people, who apparently resisted being arrested following the incident on Thursday, were shot dead by police.
Another is recovering in hospital.
Minister Cele said 67 people had, in total, been arrested.
He said some of the suspects included so-called "zama-zamas", or illegal foreign miners.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili confirmed cases of rape and robbery were underway.
Brigadier Muridili said Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela had also "mobilised maximum resources to hunt down the perpetrators".
Minister Cele said at least nine of the arrested suspects were of Nigerian descent.
