A local government councillor in the Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West Province is expected to apply for bail when he is back in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court in November.
The National Prosecuting Authority said the suspended 43-year-old councillor, Tebogo Sepale, had initially opted not to apply for bail.
NPA regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, said he is currently facing a total of 11 charges.
These include “two for statutory rape, three for the violation of a child with consent, one for manufacturing pornographic material, four for rape and one for sexual intimidation. The state may add other charges when the matter goes to the higher court”.
He said Sepale’s court appearance emanates from a report that the Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, was investigating a case of crimen injuria, and two separate counts of statutory rape against him.
Mamothame said in one matter, Sepale allegedly shared nude pictures with the complainant, while in a separate case involving the same suspect, two counts of statutory rape were laid in May by the parents of two boys, aged 15 and 17.
“He will remain in police custody pending the outcome of his bail application,” he said.
