Two men accused of running an illegal abalone process facility in Paarl in the Western Cape are expected to apply for bail in the local Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old Chen Zhuang and the 28-year-old Mohammed Hussein have been in custody since their arrest just over a week ago.
Zhuang and Hussein were arrested when police stopped their vehicle and both tried to run away.
Police chased them on foot and made and arrested both.
Police found 8250 stripped abalone inside the vehicle and approached the Hawks to help with their investigation.
This led them to a property in St Francis Avenue, where more dried abalone worth over R1.3 million was found inside a fully operational abalone drying facility.
