A man from Brakpan who reported his mother missing will appear in court this week for her murder.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela says the 54-year-old went to the Brakpan police station last Thursday to report his mother missing.
He says community members raised the alarm on Monday when the son started to act suspiciously over the weekend.
When police arrived to interrogate him he confessed to killing his 80-year-old mother.
Makhubela says he told police how he suffocated his mother to death while she was sleeping.
He then mixed cement in a drum outside and he forcefully pressed her lifeless body in it.
Captain Makhubela says he led police to the scene where the drum was and forensics found her body after cutting the drum open.
The man arrested and will appear in court soon.
