A suspected gang leader and three other people are expected to appear in court in Cape Town on Monday after their arrest in connection with the murder of top police detective Charl Kinnear.
The gang leader is believed to be a major underworld figure, previously linked to crimes relating to nightclub security.
The arrests were made on Thursday in a dramatic operation that shut down a large area around Century City.
The Hawks say the suspects are also linked to the attempted murder of Cape Town lawyer William Booth
The 52-year-old Lieutenant Colonel Kinnear died in a hit outside his house in Bishop Lavis in September last year.
A former rugby player, Zane Kilian, remains in custody after being arrested in connection with the policeman’s murder.
The 39-year-old Killian allegedly pinged the phones of both Kinnear and Booth.
Police minister Bheki Cele says they are expecting more arrests.
