A 35-year-old woman has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after drugs were found strapped to her body and which she had also swallowed.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, says the woman was arrested on Thursday following an intelligence-driven operation.
"A body search by members of Customs and Excise initially revealed she had concealed drugs in a body wrap around her waist," said Mogale.
He said she was placed under arrest and also sent for x-rays which revealed that she had swallowed multiple “bullets” containing drugs with an estimated street value of about R181 000.
Mogale said the total drug haul is estimated at around R600 000.
The woman is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday.
