Suspect in court following deadly Henneman farm attack

A 36-year-old suspect appeared briefly in the Henneman Magistrate’s court in the Free State on Monday after being arrested in connection with last week’s farm attack at Swartpan in which 56-year-old farmer Pieter Hills was killed.

Hill’s 26-year-old son is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the back during the attack in which at least three handguns were stolen.

Four suspects were initially arrested in connection with the latest murder to rock South Africa’s farming community.

At Monday’s appearance, 36-year-old Tshidiso Patrick Bochedi faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and house robbery.

Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said the case was postponed to the 16th of November for further investigation and for Bochedi’s formal bail application.

The second suspect is due to appear in court on the 11th of November while the third was released after she could not be positively linked to the crime.

A 47-year-old man was found dead in a police holding cell on Saturday, just hours after he was apprehended.

Brigadier Makhele said more arrests are imminent.
