A 36-year-old man from Elsies River in the Western Cape is facing drug charges after 100 mandrax tablets were found hidden inside his rectum.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says police received a tip-off about the suspect and his movements over the weekend and the taxi he was travelling in was pulled over on the R62 near Ladismith.
He says it is alleged that the suspect was transporting drugs from Cape Town to Ladismith to supply the small rural town of Kannaland.
Captain Pojie says the suspect was taken to a police station for a physical search where about 100 mandrax tablets were found hidden in his rectum.
The drugs were handed over as evidence.
The man was released on a warning and must appear in court again only in January next year.
