Police officers in Pretoria who responded to an alleged suicide in Sunnyside have been left "shocked and devastated".
Spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela says a 32-year-old woman came to the police station to report that her 17-year-old niece had committed suicide.
He says officers discovered the victim's body inside a bathtub with burn wounds to her upper and lower body. Officers on the scene immediately suspected that the victim was forcefully submerged into the water.
Mavimbela says it is alleged that the victim and her aunt had an argument on Tuesday afternoon which lead to the incident.
The officers who responded to the scene are expected to attend a debriefing session soon to help them deal with the trauma.
A post mortem will be performed to establish the exact cause of her death.
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested on the spot and will be charged with murder.
