State wants life sentence for Humpreys

The state has called for a life sentence to be imposed on Cape Town taxi driver, Jacob Humphreys, who has been found guilty on 10 charges of murder.
Ten Cape Town school children died last year when he failed to stop at a level crossing and his taxi was hit by a train.

Yesterday, state prosecutor Susan Galloway said the only factors that counted in Humphreys' favour were his age and his having no previous convictions.
However, she said these were insufficient to justify any jail sentence less than life.

Defence counsel, Johan Engelbrecht, said his client had accepted responsibility for the crash.
Humphrey's, who's out on bail, will be sentenced next Tuesday.
