Eskom has implemented Stage 5 loadshedding on Saturday morning - the highest stage the country has ever been subjected to.
The Utility said in a statement another five units broke overnight and on Saturday morning with a combined capacity of 2 400 MW.
Stage 5 will continue until Monday, but Eskom warned if more breakdowns occur, higher stages of loadshedding will be possible.
Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said a press briefing will be held on Sunday to share the plans for the week ahead.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality(NMBM) Kupido Baron says Stage 5 is the same as Stage 4 for households as this just means that the municipality will add industrial areas too.
This, however, is only relevant to the NMBM.
Loadshedding schedules make provision for up to Stage 8.
