The Azanian People's Organisation (Azapo) believes the special remission of sentence announced by President Jacob Zuma is a tactic to free his former financial adviser Schabir Shaik.
Azapo says it believes the blanket remission is only being used as a diversion, as Zuma seeks to reprieve Shaik, a person whom he sacrificed so that he could be a president.
Zuma made the announcement at a Freedom Day celebration in Pretoria on Friday.
He said an estimated 14,650 sentenced inmates would be released conditionally in terms of the Remission of Sentences.
Police Minister, Nathi Mthethwa added that another 20, 855 people on probation and parole would be included in the remission.
