SPCA in spat with local security company over darting of Edenvale tiger

The SPCA in Edenvale on the East Rand says they have zero confirmation or proof that the tiger that was spotted in the area on Monday had been captured.

The spotted tiger soon became a top trending topic in South Africa as this has been the second similar escape in two weeks.

Just hours after the animal was spotted at a property in the area, security companies and authorities were on high alert.

A post on social media, reportedly from SOS security, accompanied by a photograph of a darted tiger, was later shared with the caption that the animal had been safely darted, captured and relocated.

Management at Edenvale SPCA says SOS was the only organization that confirmed the tiger's capture, yet they are not permitted, equipped, trained or experienced to handle wildlife.

It stated furthermore that their inspectors were threatened with legal action.

SOS security joined in on the conversation on the SPCA's Facebook page stating that the animal was safe and that the SPCA did not need to know about its whereabouts.

The Management Committee said they have consulted their legal teams and private sources to get to the truth.

SOS Security has received a massive backlash on its social media platforms with the public demanding action.

AlgoaFM News reached out to the company for comment and the article will be updated as soon as this is received.
